Made in my apartment shared with an Indian science major, Christian convert named Armaan and an American freshly graduated from high school named Daryn. One would cook almost every day, morning and night, brewing chai and watching theology about Jesus and the holy trinity. The other would play bass guitar, most of the time combating my own bass playing (I was borrowing one from a best friend, Luke), while working doubles, door dashing McDonalds, and partying with friends on Friday nights. I was a Creative Writing student balancing college and performing + creating music, all while grieving my friend Avandre Alexander Jones.
More details
This EP is about none of this, but is about all of this. Armaan and Daryn would hear me yelling and crying between learning Interpol bass riffs and Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue" spinning on my turntable. They smelled my bubbler bubbling and my mouth fuming, not saying a thing to me or our office. We barely exchanged words, but Armaan would make me potato-pea stuffed parathas and his chai, teaching me that even his tea bags were of lower quality than most of what he could find back home. One day, I drove him to Walmart and we saw the sun as close to the horizon either of us had ever seen, large and orange. I'll never forget that moment, and there's a song on TURQUOISE SPIRIT BOMB about it.
My cousin said this EP sounded "cathartic" and I think that's a perfect word to describe it. But I would also say "groundbreaking" in the sense of my own career especially, as TURQUOISE SPIRIT BOMB has 2 beats I made completely from scratch with synths and live drums, singing, straight up poetry reciting too. I would also use the latter adjective in a wider scope too as I haven't heard anything else like TURQUOISE SPIRIT BOMB before.
This EP is a snapshot of my blues radiating all around me, hoping green.
